UTILITY CLUBS (Hybrid Ironwoods)
Most golfers struggle with their long irons for a couple of possible reasons. The long irons have a relatively small sweetspot compared to other irons, and even more importantly MANY golfers don't generate enough clubhead speed to to get an adequate "launch angle" for the longer irons. Many golfers hit their 3, 4 and 5 irons pretty much the same distance for this reason. There are a couple of solutions to handle the distances needed to replace these long irons. One option of course are fairway woods. Pretty much a 5 wood translates to the 3 iron; 7 wood to the 4 iron; 9 wood to 5 iron; 11 wood to 6 iron, etc. (Check out the Bang fairway woods by clicking on the fairway woods section. Available in the usual 3, 5 and 7 woods; and there is also a 9 wood, 11 wood, 13 wood, 15 wood, 17 wood and 19 wood, where the 19 wood equates to a pitching wedge.) A second option becoming very popular are the new hybrid iron/woods. Some look like a combination iron/wood, and some look more like a wood. Typically they take a shorter iron shaft for more control. They have a much bigger sweetspot than the long irons, and are MUCH easier to hit. Check out the following: (And be sure to scroll all the way to the bottom to see the Titan Ironwoods model available in hybrid style all the way up to the Pitching Wedge. These clubs are GREAT!
Hybrid Model # 1 Hybrid Turbo SQ
Just introduced in 2007, this hybrid/utility club has the new "square head" appearance. These are really nice, feedback has been excellent. These square head models really do help in terms of accuracy. Right handed only, available in the # 2 (16 degree); # 3 (19 degree); # 4 (22 degree); and # 5 (25 degree). Prices: $49 each with steel shaft, or $59 each with graphite. Set of three@ $120 with steel shafts, or $150 with graphite shafts. Available in any flex.
Hybrid Model # 2 HYBRID TURBO SS-FIRE
Similar in design to the 2007 Taylor Made® hybrids, this model has a slightly lower profile than the previous generation. (See model 4 and 5 for the previous generation hybrids, which are still EXTREMELY POPULAR.) Right handed only, available in the # 2 (16 degree); # 3 (19 degree); # 4 (22 degree); and # 5 (25 degree). Prices: $49 each with steel shaft, or $59 each with graphite. Set of three@ $120 with steel shafts, or $150 with graphite shafts. Available in any flex.
Hybrid Model 3 V Series - Hybrid Wood
The "V" Series iron/wood hybrid is more forgiving than traditional long irons. It is designed for long, accurate shots from the tee, the rough or fairway (depending on the loft you choose). Much easier to hit than the comparable long irons. Deep face with offset design and low center of gravity. They have the appearance of an easy to hit fairway wood, but have the heavier weight of an iron. (For example, a 7 wood head weighs @ 228 grams; and the corresponding 4 iron head, and in this case the V series hybrid 22 degree head weighs @ 248 grams.) This model available right handed only, in 15 degree (2 iron); 18 degree (3 iron); 22 degree (4 iron); 26 degree (5 iron); and 30 degree (6 iron). (If you are left handed, see the model below.) Individual prices are $49 each with steel shaft, and $59 each in graphite. Available in all flexes (ladies, senior, regular, firm and stiff). Set of three: $120 steel shafts or $150 graphite.
Hybrid Model # 4 Turbo Replace Woods
These combination iron/woods are available in a 2 iron (16 degrees), 3 iron (19 degrees), 4 iron (22 degrees) and a 5 iron (25 degrees). Available in right handed and left handed. Again, this type of club is much easier to hit than the equivalent long iron. Prices: $49 each with steel shaft, or $59 each with graphite. Set of three@ $120 with steel shafts, or $150 with graphite shafts. Available in any flex. Hybrid Model # 4A TURBO REPLACE WITH SCREW TECHNOLOGY
The same model as above, except with adjustable screw weights in the toe, heel and sole. If you tend to fade the ball, you can put a heavier screw at the toe. If you want a higher ball flight, the theory is you can put a heavier screw in the sole. Comes with a 2, 5 and 8 gram screw mounted in the clubhead. Additional 2, 5, 8 and 10 gram screws can be purchased at $.75 each. Price: Same as above. ($49 each with steel shaft, or $59 graphite. Set of 3 @ $120 steel shafts, or $150 graphite)
Or DESIGN YOUR OWN SET OF IRONS If you are ordering a "traditional" set of irons, for a price of $20 per club, you can eliminate any long irons from the set, and add the corresponding hybrid. For example, if you are ordering a set of the steel shafted Turbo Big Balance irons and would like to replace the 3 and 4 irons with the corresponding hybrids, you would take the $159 price for the irons, and add $40; for a total of $199. (If graphite shafted Turbo Big Balance irons, the price would be the $239 plus the $4, for a total of $279.) If you wanted only one hybrid to replace the 3 iron, you would add $20 to the price of the irons. Replacing 3 clubs would off course add $60. Hybrid Model # 5 Check out this full set of hybrids!
